Tigran Hamasyan (Armenian: Տիգրան Համասյան; born July 17 1987) is an Armenianjazzpianist and composer.

He plays mostly original compositions, strongly influenced by the Armenian folk tradition, often using its scales and modalities.

He has taken the jazz world by storm since bursting onto the scene with his debut album, "World Passion," at just 18 years old.

Born in Gyumri, Armenia, in , Tigran grew up in a household that was full of music—his father more of a rock fan while his uncle was a huge jazz buff.

Tigran himself was born in Armenia, moved to Los Angeles at 16 then to New York, then back to Armenia where he currently resides.

Hamasyan, who was born in Armenia but raised in L.A. after turning 16, found previously undiscovered land between Armenian folk, breakneck bop.
